Me Made February meets 12-on-the-12th

Here is still Me Made February, but it is also the 12th and therefore time for 12-on-the-12th. A great blog initiative by Caro, for which you have to take 12 photos of your life on the 12th of each month.

An early 12-on-the-12th today, but of you have a little one your day usually starts quite early. On weekends as well as weekdays. So at 9am the little one and I were not only awake, but already outside. On our morning tour.

Today we headed towards Potsdamer Platz, not knowing what would await us there...

... Berlinale craziness, red bears everywhere...

... the red carpet – and me on it with incredible dirty shoes ;-)...

... so many movies in just 10 days...

... and so many people waiting in line to buy some tickets (I have been there many, many times before, but never have been so well prepared: laptops, champing chairs – I am impressed).

I love cakes and tarts and pastry, but these are really too beautiful to eat.

A little beautification point for all the stars and starlets – still closed at this early hour. What a shame, I could need a bit of concealer and some lipstick ;-)

Back at home with fresh chocolate croissants, coffee and the Berlinale programme. I need to know at least what I am missing.

The little one is awake again – and she has a bit of a bad hair day...

... but she is extremely interested in the movie programme. Extremely interesting in eating the programme I should say ;-)

And that is me – trying to add some glamour after the disaster with the dirty shoes on the red carpet. Super-big sunnies and pout a la Victoria Beckham. And my favourite me made headband with fabric a la Pucci.

Since you cannot really see the headband on my head – here it is again. Just some stretchy viscose sewn into a tunnel.

Me Made February – French

Today I feel so French – je ne sais pas quoi.

Maybe because of my blue-and-white striped T-Shirt with the volants on the shoulders. Maybe because of the red lipstick I wore today. Or maybe because of my me made necklace: simple mais elegante, avec les perles:

Oh la la! Let’s have a look at what the other girls  wore today.

My creative space meets Me Made February –Bavarian

Part of my Me Made Challenge which was initiated by Catherine is that I make at least one new fashion item (clothing or accessories) for me every week in February.

Therefore my creative space, where creative people from all over the world show what they are currently working on (see at Kootoyoo) is covered in the pieces I need for my second brand new me made item:

I inherited this set of cufflinks from my Bavarian grandmother. One piece of the cufflink was missing, however, and since I never ever wear blouses or shirts with cufflinks, I decided to make something that I would really treasure and wear.

Have a look at this delicate and colourful embroidery – this needs to be treasured every day and not disappear on the bottom of a jewellery box!

And once the glue is dried, I am going to wear my brand new me made earrings straight away. See here what the other talented crafters wore and made today.

Me Made February – Chinese

9 days into Me Made February and I still LOVE it. I am surprised about how many pieces of fashion and accessories I have actually made myself. And I am inspired by all the other fabulous crafters and their me made pieces.

Today my earrings are me made. I used Chinese playing cards, which are about the same lengths as other playing cards but much narrower. I don’t know exactly whether you can play similar card games with them, but what I know is: they look lovely!

The earrings are very comfortable to wear, they are quite long, but not too wide to be annoying. They are also very lightweight which I find extremely important.

Thank you very much for all the ‘get well’ wishes for my little one. They helped. She is without fever today and the cheeky, happy girl I know.

Me Made February – Japanesey

As part of my Me Made February I wore a skirt today that I have made some years ago. And it still fits me – hurray ;-)

It was inspired by an unaffordable skirt by a Japanese designer (not sure exactly which one), which I had seen in a shop in Hamburg. It is a simple jeans pencil skirt with a piece of Japanese silk appliquéd to the front. I love its contrasts: The jeans fabric makes the skirt tailored, whereas the silk gives it a certain flow. The pencil form makes it quite business-like, whereas the Japanese painting adds something exotic and flashy.

I felt very extravagant wearing this skirt today. The red colour really pops. Although I have to admit that I think the pharmacist and my little one’s paediatrist thought I was crazy. Oh well, you cannot expect everyone to have your sense of fashion, can you?

Me Made February – Pink

Wow – the first week of Me Made February is already over. It has been a challenge – esp. blogging when everyone around you is sick and needs his or her private nurse. Now! Right NOW! Anyway, it has been a lot of fun, too. Inspiring! Exciting! And therefore I cannot wait to start week 2 and round 2 of the challenge.

First of all, however, there is one last post for week 1 – which has been a very colourful week for me:

And last but not least: the newly made piece in pink

Nothing too complicated, but I am proud to have actually made something at all. Crafting is not easy when your little one is sick and just wants to be on your arm. So, last night after she finally fell asleep I raided my bead leftover collection and put together this pink, whimsical necklace.

Funnily enough pink seems to be the colour du jour – see Ute, Allerleirauh, Frau Knopf, Dana, Rebecca und Catherine . I agree with you all: Pink doesn’t deserve to be hated. It always depends on the exact shade, the fabric, the pattern, the combination and the person who wears it. Pink on a super-tanned blonde always looks cheap, but so does every other colour ;-) So hurray for classy pink!

Me Made February – Jeans Blue

Today I am going to show you my favourite me made dress – actually I think it is my favourite dress ever. It is so versatile that you will see it a couple of times this February in variations. To kick off and introduce you to my ‘darling,’ I am going to show it quite pure though:

I love square necklines. They remind me of traditional Bavarian Dirndl. And they are the perfect ‘frame’ for my necklace collection ;-)

I made the dress after this vintage Simplicity pattern (No 8882):

I found it at an OP shop in Melbourne and it was about $1. I was over the moon to discover that it did not only contain all necessary pieces of the pattern, but also fitted me perfectly. No alterations were to be made. A miracle! I am planning on making this dress in a million other fabrics, among others: Prince-of-Wales-Check (in German: Glencheck, but I think the English term sounds so much more royal ;-))), black satin, raspberry velvet,... Until now, however, I have just finished the blue jeans one. But maybe now that it is Me Made February?
