Beauty is where you find it – SIGNS OF LOVE

A great photography project which I just discovered yesterday. They are already in week 3, but I thought better join late than never. Luzia Pimpinella initiated the 4-week-long project ‘Beauty is where you find it’. It is about finding beauty in the ordinary, where you might expect it the least. Isn’t that a great idea? I think it is absolutely fabulous.

The topic for today is SIGNS OF LOVE and here is my sign of love:

I found this sign of love written on an ordinary house wall on an ordinary street in Berlin-Mitte. Yes, the surrounding was so ordinary that you can even see the Berlin-obligatory dog pooh on the left ;-(

Now I cannot wait to see what signs of love you have found.

Better than a bunch of roses...

... is when your lovely husband takes the little one for her midday trip in the pram. And all you have to do is sit back, relax,...

... enjoy your cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll, read a magazine, browse the net, look out of the window.

I love you darling!

Happy Anniversary, again!

Another advantage of having a two-day wedding with registry and family dinner on one day and church and big party on the next day (apart from having a lot of time to celebrate with your loved ones) is that you can celebrate your love twice every year.

So cheers to you, my love!

Victoria

Victoria was born on Monday 31st May 2010.

She is a happy, healthy little girl and her papa and I cannot get enough of her. We look at her in amazement for 24 hours a day, we admire her little feet, we kiss her cubby hands, we try to understand her different types of crying, we feed her, we change her nappies, we cuddle her, we sleep with her and wake even before she does, we constantly check whether she is still breathing, whether she is too cold or too hot, whether she is hungry or bored or tired... We get to know her.

I will try my best to keep on writing this blog, but I might just be too busy loving her to pieces.

I have prepared, however, a few posts in the last stages of my pregnancy for you. At the time when all I could do was wait for her arrival. That way I hope I can keep this little blog of mine interesting and inspiring for you, although all I can think about is HER at the moment.

Becoming a parent but be yourself

I know becoming a parent is a life-changing moment. Nevertheless I think it is also important to realise, that no matter what will happen to you after you had the baby, you still will be yourself. Maybe a new version of you. Maybe a more responsible one. Maybe a more caring one. Maybe someone who sleeps less. Maybe one who is more focussed on the precious new little being
but
you will be still you. And I think that is something you shouldn’t forget about. Not during your pregnancy. And not afterwards either.

So, although a lot of my thinking, doing and talking is centred on the arrival of my little one in a couple of weeks (and you, dear readers, have surely recognised this in the blog as well – all that baby stuff!) – I try also to focus on things, which I like. Which are important to me. Or to other people I love.

So, dear mums and mums-to-be, please look after yourself as well. And make sure you spend enough time that is...

all about you:
  • Spend money on yourself: buy a piece of art, buy beautiful (not necessarily practical) clothes
  • Read a stimulating book: I highly recommend ‘Mother Tongue’ by Bill Bryson, which is an amazing book about the English language, but the key thing is that is has nothing to do with pregnancy, labour, breastfeeding or parenting
  • Pamper yourself: get a new hair cut (and don’t just focus on easy maintenance), paint your nails (or ask someone to do it for you)
  • Make something for you: sew a dress, craft some jewellery, draw

all about your loved ones:
  • Spend quality time with your partner: have fun, be romantic, ask about his feelings/ thoughts and listen, talking about the little one is not allowed
  • Spend quality time with your family and friends: listen to what they have to say, what is going on in their lives (weddings, breakups, new jobs, holidays...), don’t only ramble about your pregnancy and baby
And please enjoy these times without any guilt, because if you are happy, your baby/ child will benefit from that as well. Before and after his/ her birth!

So be happy!

... Andi and I met for the first time. So what do you call today? The first-meeting-anniversary? Anyway, we are going to Movida tonight.

The Melbournians among you know what that means: the need to book a table 6 weeks in a advance. That’s why I have never been there although I always wanted, but when it comes to food and going out I am just too spontaneous. For this ‘special occasion’, however, I thought it s worth the effort and waiting time. Apparently they serve absolutely amazing, original Spanish food. Little tapas, sherries, paella, crema catalane... mmmmhhhh!

Perfect for two (and a half) who are almost as passionate about food as they are about each other.

Happy Anniversary, my love!

And dear readers: I’ll let you know how it was tomorrow ;-)
