Following a tip in the CUT magazine I found a great new online shop. Envelop only sells unique, small batch items – mainly tote bags, pillow covers, aprons, table runners and the like. The wonderful thing is that you can also upload your own design and then everyone can buy it and you get a share of the money. Maybe that is just the start of your international design career?

I would love to have a red kitchen. With bright red, shiny doors. As long as we are living in a rented apartment, however, I don’t think that my dream will come true. So the next best thing is to brighten up my classic white kitchen with lots of red accessories, like these ones e.g.:

Ruby Russian Doll

No, it is not a Matroschka-Babuschka doll this time. This cute little doll is called Newaljaschka. Or Wanjka-Wstanjka. This both means tumbler (“Stehaufmännchen”), , but I like the Russian words so much better. Because they are so onomatopoeic – when you hear the words you can almost see the little doll tumble from left to right, from right to left – wanjka-wanjka-wanjka.


I discover this cutie in a Russian shop today and couldn’t resist her. Look at these big dark eyes. And these incredible lashes. And her stylish forelock. There are actually a number of different types of Wanjka-Wstanjka, from sailor to clown, from mouse to bunny, from brunettes to raven, but I think she is just the sweetest.


Obviously Wanjka-Wstanjkas are very popular toys in Russia as I learnt here. It is ideal for little ones, because it is not only a tumbler, but also a rattle and the bright colours catch every baby’s attention. Oh well, I think I have to share this beauty with my little one.

Me Made February – Necklace

A late and quick Me Made February post from me today. I had a super-busy day, but it is done and all I want to do now is lie on the sofa and read a few pages. So, please excuse that I am a bit short-spoken today.

Despite the hectic, I did wear a me made necklace today. I love it, because although it is made of real pearls, coral and semi-precious stones, it doesn’t look boring. Or too traditional. Or too serious.

Me Made February – Recycled

 

Recycling is actually one of my favourite ‘crafting techniques’. Because it is ecological. Because it is cheap – or even for free. Because I think that it is creativity as its best to come up with new uses for old things!

So today as part of my Me Made Challenge I wear my sushi necklace. It is made from the little soy sauce containers, which you get with each sushi set.

I love sushi. I could eat it every day. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I also cannot throw anything cute away. So, you can imagine how many of these fish soy containers I have ;-) I thought a lot about what to do with these before I came up with the idea of turning them into necklace charms. I know it is quite unusual and quirky, some may say even weird. I hope, however, that it doesn’t look like trash art. If it does, please let me know. Because even though I love recycling, I don’t want to look like a bag lady ;-)

My creative space meets Me Made February – Ge-stricklieslt

Part of my Me Made Challenge which was initiated by Catherine is that I make at least one new fashion item (clothing or accessories) for me every week in February.

Therefore my creative space, where creative people from all over the world show what they are currently working on (see at Kootoyoo is covered in the pieces I need for my third brand new me made item:

Today I finally managed to finish my first Strickliesl necklace. And I love it! Hurray!!! After I fell in love with the good old Strickliesl, after all the project research and after all the time spent to produce the Strickliesl strings, it is finally done!!!

Voila – cosy warm red wool meets a nautical knot. Kindergarten crafting meets fashion.

Let’s see what the other girls have worn today and how all the other creative spaces looked like!

Me Made February – Japanesey

As part of my Me Made February I wore a skirt today that I have made some years ago. And it still fits me – hurray ;-)

It was inspired by an unaffordable skirt by a Japanese designer (not sure exactly which one), which I had seen in a shop in Hamburg. It is a simple jeans pencil skirt with a piece of Japanese silk appliquéd to the front. I love its contrasts: The jeans fabric makes the skirt tailored, whereas the silk gives it a certain flow. The pencil form makes it quite business-like, whereas the Japanese painting adds something exotic and flashy.

I felt very extravagant wearing this skirt today. The red colour really pops. Although I have to admit that I think the pharmacist and my little one’s paediatrist thought I was crazy. Oh well, you cannot expect everyone to have your sense of fashion, can you?

Note to myself: clean the mirror from the little one’s finger prints and remember to iron the pieces before you photograph ;-)

Me made February – Red

As part of my Me Made Challenge invented by Catherine I wore today:

A black skirt with red applications and a black shirt plus my favourite self-made red tassel earrings

I love that they are light-weight, soft (important if you little one snuggles against your ear), long and dramatic. And isn’t the colour just the perfect shade?

They are super-easy to make. I just added these little tassels which I found in a crafting shop in Melbourne to silver ear hooks with a beautiful delicately decorated ball.

And this is how I look before I leave the house to go for a walk with my little one. Lots of extra layers and thermo accessories. Just to reassure all of you who were concerned about my seemingly light dressing on such a cold winter’s day ;-)
